THE DRAWINGS OF G.B. CASTIGLIONE & STEFANO DELLA BELL
In the Collection of Her Majesty the Queen at Windsor Castle. Phaidon Press 1954.1st Ed. 4to. viii + 127pp. + [i]. 86 b/w. plates, 28 figures. Light foxing, original gilt lettered red cloth, some marking and spotting, faded particularly to spine. Inscribed to front free end paper ‘Mum, with love from Anthony May 1954’. With the bookplate of Hilda V. Blunt (Hilda Violet Blunt née Master (1880–1969)). Anthony was his mother's favourite, her 'Benjamin'. Years later she would tell people how as a very small boy he had been solicitous of her, always trying to carry her heavy luggage, and performing other small feats of gallantry. She coddled him. ‘My mother was very close to Anthony,’ Christopher Blunt later told an interviewer. ‘He was slightly delicate as a child but my mother exaggerated this and would give him tonics all the time.’
