Pennant’s tour in Wales actually took place in 1773. MDCLXX was corrected by hand to MDCLXXIII on a number of copies.’ As above. First and best edition, containing matter and information not in subsequent editions, the impressions of the plates far exceed the later editions Thomas Pennant (1726-98) ‘... His Tours in Wales which cover only the northern parts of the country and on which he was accompanied by John Lloyd have a well-written and clearly illustrated text (the drawings were by his servant Moses Griffith) which make them among detailed surveys, the best as well as the earliest of their kind ...’ Oxford Companion to the Literature of Wales.
