Some light browning, contemporary marbled boards with calf corners, corners reinforced, rebacked in modern gilt ruled calf with gilt lettered label to spine. Volume 1 only, complete. Volume 2 issued in 1781 included ‘The Journey to Snowdon’, which was also issued seperately. ESTC T133752 ‘First and best edition, containing matter and information not in subsequent editions, the impressions of the plates far exceed the later editions. Anonymous. By Thomas Pennant. The titlepages are engraved ... Pennant’s tour in Wales actually took place in 1773. MDCLXX was corrected by hand to MDCLXXIII on a number of copies [not on our copy]. Seee L.F. Powell, ’The tours of Thomas Pennant’, The Library, 4th series XIX (1938); pp.131-154.’ Pennant was accompanied on his travels by John Lloyd (1733-93), the text of his volumes was well-written and clearly illustrated (the drawings were by his servant Moses Griffith), which make them, among detailed surveys, the best as well as the earliest of their kind.
