8pp. + [iv] + 183pp. Very light browning, ex.-libris Joshua Smith and J.J. Reynolds, hinges taped, inner gilt dentelles, gilt tool edged brown mottled calf border to boards, with central rectangular panel in green calf, minor marking to boards, gilt tooling to spine with gilt tooled red calf oval inlays, red gilt lettered title label with gilt ruled red calf bands to head and tail, intricate gilt gauffering to edges, attractive binding showing minor signs of wear. First published in 1708. Our copy without the additional engraved t.p. sometimes present in this edition, but present (without printed title page) in the reissue also published in 1791. ESTC T101994. An imitation of Virgil's Georgics. With some fine descriptive passages with an exact account of the culture of the apple tree and the manufacture of cider. It has many local allusions to Herefordshire, the County of Philips’ ancestors.
