He was influenced by Rabindranath Tagore and maintained strong ties with India. Dartington Hall became the centre for experiments in agriculture, animal genetics, forestry, and all the Arts; with the custom of gathering visiting thinkers and specialists in all areas to cross-fertilise ideas and practical action on an economic basis.
