Byron, Lord.

John Murray 1823-5.
6 vols. Port. frontis. Half titles present to each vol. [Vol. 4 without ‘Notes to the Poems and colophon’ on one leaf at rear], ink stamp to front f.e.p. of each vol., prelims. to vol. 1 with light waterstain to upper portion, some browning and spotting, marbled and edges, double gilt rule edged half straight grain morocco with marbled boards, some wear to boards, joints rubbed, dec. gilt tooled raised bands and gilt lettering to sl. rubbed and dulled spines. Lowndes pp.338. States the difficulty of having a ‘complete works’ - finds that the 6 volume Murray edition forms the core, and that other volumes published variously by Hunt, Knight, Lacey and Davidson would be necessary to complete a ‘collected works’. Containing the whole of ‘Childe Harold,’ The Giaour, The Bride of Abydos, The Corsair, The Siege of Corinth, The Prisoner of Chillon, Beppo, Mazeppa, Manfred, Hebrew Melodies and other poems. Marino Faliero, The Prophecy of Dante, Cain, Sardanapalus, and the Two Foscari. Inscribed in a contemporary hand to each volume ‘Anne Maria Libscomb,’ and a manuscript note inserted states ‘In Memory of A.G. Ross this from his library to his friend W. Rothenstein’. A Pencil note states the set was purchased at the Rothenstein sale in 2001.
