Printed on pp.158-159 is an interesting letter from John Adams, Pitcairn Island, January, 1819 addressed to his brother in London, recording the fact that ... I have now lived on this island thirty years and have a wife and four children ... you will no doubt recollect my affair with Hannah Bayley; should she still be in the land of the living, let her know I am still in life and sorry it is not in my power to fulfil my engagements; and let me know what is come of the child ...
