Haney 84 ‘The fifth English edition.’ Volume 2 with the bookplate of James Anderson Rose, (1819-1890). James Anderson Rose was Whistler's solicitor. As well as a solicitor, he was a major print collector, confidant, and friend of artists, including Whistler and Rossetti. He owned The Sleeper and Sleeping woman, and had a magnificent collection of Whistler's etchings. An exhibition of his collection toured the country, going to Liverpool, Newcastle and Birmingham, in 1874.
