Some sporadic spotting to plates and t.p. in vol. 1, marbled e.ps., upper hinge cracked in vol. 1, hinges neatly repaired in vol. 2, ex.-libris Frederick Seymour Clarke, inner gilt dentelles, bound by Bedford in triple gilt rule edged calf, gilt ruled edges, some minor rubbing to extremities, upper board lightly spotted and lower board sl. rubbed to vol. 1, joints splitting at head and tail to vol. 1, gilt filleted raised bands dec. gilt compartments and contrasting leather title labels to spines, vol. 2 nicely rebacked in later calf with original spine laid down, a.e.g. Arntzen E38 ‘Still the standard universal dictionary of artists in English ...’
