OLD IRISH GLASS.The Walter Harding Collection Including old English & other pieces. [Privately Published Liverpool] : Liverpool Printing & Stationery Co. 1930.
Enlarged Ed. 121pp. Numerous plates with letterpress. Contemporary half cloth with boards, spine faded and frayed, lightly browned. Inscribed ‘With all good wishes from Walter Harding. Rathmore Noctorum, Cheshire, 22nd October 1930.’ An important Irish collection, tainted though through the authors association with Elizabeth Graydon Stannus who supplied many of the glasses collected and who was the Author of a key work on Irish Glass. "The greatest villain in the manipulation of the history of Irish Glass" (McConnell, Magazine Antiques, Sept. 2004). Apparently in a talk given in 1924 she indicated she had been the producer of fake Irish glass, and was also assumed to have added additonal engraving and cutting to improve genuine pieces. The Harding collection when it reached auction in 1936 at Sothebys was sold for a fraction of the prices paid, more due to association that due to fake pieces being especially present in this particular collection.
